It seems I’ve been pretty burnt out on blogging lately.  If you couldn’t tell.

I’ve had a pretty busy summer of trips, visits, work, events, and food swapping.  What’s food swapping you might ask?  Well, I am part of a trio of local ladies heading up the MPLS Food Swappers (hey!  We even have a presence on Facebook!), an event where participants barter for homemade/home-grown foods through a silent-auction-style bidding process.  It’s super cool and I’m super excited to be a part of it.  There are a bunch of these across the country, so you should find out if there’s one in your ‘hood (I believe there is a central swappers directory/website in the works as well that I can link to later).  There is a lot of press happening around swaps, both locally for us and nationally for the general movement, so even if there isn’t one in your neck of the woods yet, chances are pretty good one might pop up soon!

I am also in the middle of reviewing two cookbooks that I was sent in the mail recently.  I’m pretty excited about that, too!  It’s nice to have someone else give me a push to get me out of the food rut I feel I’ve been in.

All of a sudden we went from 92 degrees on Monday afternoon to 39 degrees Wednesday night – yeesh!  It’s crazypants weather here in Minnesota (but what else is new?).  I’ve got to admit that I’m definitely ready for fall and all the wonderful things that happen: apple orchards, hot mugs of tea, cider, and hot chocolate, roasting squash, the smell of fireplaces, crunchy leaves under my feet on gray autumn walks, and wearing scarves and sweaters.  I could almost live in fall weather ALL THE TIME.

Foodwise it was mostly happening before the cool weather set in: I took my ladyfriend on a picnic date with heirloom tomato gazpacho, farro salad with almonds, basil and chicken-of-the-woods, and almond mousse.  I made a semi-elaborate taco dinner for out of town guests that was one of the most colorful (and tasty) meals this year!

More to come, though I’m easing back into things.  Finally, the kitchen is cool enough to heat up again!

      Thanks Blaine!

Ooh, are you part of any with Kate Payne? She came to one of our early swaps as part of her book tour. And I agree, it is a great place to do both of those things :)

Welcome back! Last week there was a feature about food swapping in the US on a German radio station. It sounded very interesting.

  4. All that food looks so tasty! Loving the look of that kale!
