Flowers and a Link – swell

Flowers and a Link

Flowers from the lady

Flowers from the lady

Yesterday I was having a bad day at work.  Nothing catastrophic happened, just a bunch of little things adding up to put me in a stressed and sourpuss mood.  Towards the end of my shift I heard my name being called from the other end of the kitchen and looked up to see this gorgeously pink and yellow bouquet of flowers that my special ladyfriend got for me (she’s still on tour until Monday).  All my cares melted away, and I had a huge smile for the rest of the day!

I feel the need to update you on my back-to-cooked food situation.  I can tell you that I’ve probably made a few poor diet choices since Sunday (Malaysian food, some homemade white flour biscuits a friend brought over, a couple of mint juleps that left me feeling pretty hungover the next day, and I’m rarely hungover), and I’m feeling a few effects that differ drastically from last week while I was eating raw.  One, I’m really really tired.  As in I took a four hour nap yesterday after work.  And two, my stomach is experiencing some gastric distress, today especially.  So right now I’m sitting here eating a bowlful of sugar snap peas for dinner and regretting the chai oatscreme shake I got earlier at work (my heart is racing and my stomach feels quite sad).  So, more raw food for me again, maybe even two smoothies a day!  I need to work on my savory green smoothies/soups anyhow…

Last but not least, my little rudimentary baking tips video has finally been posted!  I feel least qualified amongst the other baking advisers featured in the post, but you might find the video amusing – watching with the sound on is a definite must for the full effect!  (Scroll down to the bottom of the post, I’m the last one.)

I’ve into my first week of a raw food fortnight, and am finding it both difficult and easy. I’ve had to have some brown rice the last two nights, which has helped.

But like you I have noticed that my body just seems to be relieved to be being fed this way. And I know the tired feeling that would rush back to me again if I went back to bread/coffee/milk.

Something tells me that this two weeks is going to be extended…

I find your blog very inspirational as I march through this experience. Thanks:)

Flowers at work! Lucky you :) And I hope you start feeling better, it’s so hard to balance between raw and cooked sometimes.

Awww your lady is sweet, for sure! Those flowers are lovely and it sounds like they arrived at exactly the right time…

Headed over to check out your baking video right now. Hope your tummy is better and you’re feeling more rested!

Gorgeous flowers! Hope you’re feeling better soon. Upset bellies are no fun at all :(

  5. Very nice! What lovely flowers. That’s such a special feeling to receive them.

Don’t be too hard on yourself for poor food choices. Hope your week is better!

Nothing like pretty flowers to cheer you up!

Now I need to go check out your baking video!

  8. How sweet!!! I need to get a girlfriend instead of a boyfriend so I’ll get flowers. Girls are just better at thinking about doing nice things like that!

And interesting about your body’s reaction to “junk” foods. It’s weird how once you start eating healthier, you can’t take the crap anymore. I went to a festival last month and ate a HUGE plate of greasy, deep-fried saratoga chips (that were literally oozing with grease). And I got sooo sick later. At one time, I could eat that kind of stuff with no problem.

BTW, I made your zucchini lemon bread this week! So delicious! I did have to bake it a little longer than the recipe called for, but all ovens are different (and I don’t own an oven thermometer…even though I should really invest in one).

Well, I prefer girlfriends for obvious reasons but don’t think they’re problem-free ;-)

Yes, your chip experience sounds like my week… My stomach is just not happy. Sometimes I think it’s the change from raw to cooked, but I wonder about allergies/sensitivities as well. Ick.

Glad you made the bread and liked it… sorry the baking time was so off for you! Maybe you’ll get it fixed up nice for next time.

Best of luck finding a happy medium between raw and cooked… It’s definitely no simple task. I’m hoping to eat more raw this summer as greater numbers of fruits and veggies hit their prime, so I’m right there with you trying to find some balance as well!

I hope you photograph some of it… I’d be very into some of your lovely photos of fruit and veggie things!

Awww…I HATE those days…it is no one thing, just so many little things add up to ruin the day. I am glad that the flowers brightened your day–it was such a sweet thing of her to do!

I’m still totally up for eating at Ecopolitan sometime! And going to the farmer’s market again (I’ll be in Chicago this weekend though).

I watched your video, cutest girl in the world. Also, good baking tips.

  12. Aww! Sorry to hear about your issues with food choices that left you less than happy. We’ve all been there, seriously, don’t take it too hard. *hugs* I guess our body has a way to tell us what it likes and what it doesn’t? Sometimes we have human moments, of course. :)

Wow Anne, we must be on the same wavelength…I went back to raw this week…and am currently eating the most delish pad thai…mmmm

raw zine on the way? :-)

    • a-k says:

I wish I felt creative enough to make a raw zine! Sometimes it seems like cheating when it’s so simple… The thought of raw pad thai makes me happy!

  14. Shayna G says:

ill send you the recipe. Its DIVINE. Seriously, food of the gods, this one. I can eat the sauce with a spoon.
